Pack Rat Members Come Together to Assist AA2SD/R Rover Complete a Microwave Test with AA2SD/R and KC3BVL
AA2SD/R Rover - Valley Forge, PA Jan 2025 - During a blustery early Saturday Morning Jim “KC3BVL” and myself set up for a microwave band test from the Valley Forge location. This is the second time I have used the microwave bands and I am still familiarizing myself with the technique and overall equipment set up as a new Rover.
I was pleased to work “Bruce” WA3YUE on both 1296 and 903. I also worked “Gary” WA2OMY on both bands with his very near location. “Tom” KA3FQS was a more difficult QSO as we could hear CW, but no luck on phone 1296. I was also able to work “Jim” W3JG on 6 Mtrs after troubleshooting my equipment and 1296 Mhz over phone with both bands. “Jim “ KC3BVL also set up his Pluto SDR and deployed a 45 element looper. A special thanks to Gary for dropping off the oversized mast from the recent auction, this will go to good use at my QTH.
Conditions were not the best, as I attempted to work Dave K1RZ, I could hear his 1296 signal with no issues, but my weaker station was not overcoming his local QRM. Overall the antennas, mast and connections all came together with the FT817 using IF switching with 2 transverters and 40 watts. I was also testing a new passenger seat Rover desk set up to deploy during the Jan VHF Contest
